UPDATE:

A BODY recovered from the river on Wednesday has now been formally identified as missing man Steven Downing.

Police recovered the body from the River Severn, near to Quay Street, Worcester on Wednesday at around 3pm.

Officers investigating have appealed to anyone who saw the 58-year-old throughout the evening, in particular after he left the station, to call 101, quoting 380s.

Detective Sergeant Ollie Moore said: "Sadly, yesterday (31 October), officers recovered the body of missing Steven Downing from the River Severn, in Worcester. 

"We are trying to piece together Steven's movements on Sunday evening and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard from him during the evening, in particular after he left Shrub Hill station at around 8.15pm."

A BODY recovered from the river yesterday is believed to be that of Steven Downing.

Steven, 58 from Kidderminster went missing on Sunday evening (October 28) after leaving Worcester Shrub Hill station at around 8:15pm

Police recovered the body from the River Severn, near to Quay Street, Worcester yesterday (Wednesday, October 31) at around 3pm.

Superintendent Damian Pettit said: "Sadly, the body of a man was recovered from the River Severn yesterday (31 October). It is believed that it is Steven Downing, who went missing on Sunday evening (28 October) in Worcester. His death is currently being treated as unexplained, the investigation is on-going."

Next of kin have been informed and formal identification will take place in due course, dedicated officers are supporting next of kin in this difficult time.
