GOLFERS teed off for the St Richard's Golf Day and raised more than £7,000 for the hospice.

A total of 116 golfers took part in the St Richard's Hospice Annual Golf Tournament at Droitwich Golf and Country Club earlier this month.

The successful event is now in its 15th year.

Twenty-nine teams of four from the local business and sports world competed and raised more than £7,000 for the cause - £1,050 was raised on the raffle alone.

The winners were: **1st 92 Points - English Mutual Worcester- Andrew Cooper, John Heard, Bill Dobie, Eric Rankin (Captain of Sutton Colfield GC) ** 2nd 90 Points - Panton Sargent Architects - Jason Whittall, Lance Locke, Chris Large, Derek Johnson ** 3rd 90 Points - Geoffrey Potter Team - Geoff Potter, Andrew Johnston, Robin Koolhoven, Peter Brannon ** 4th 89 Points - The Monday Nighters - Allister Elrick Smith, Edward Coomber, Nic Sproson, Alec Mackie **5th 88 Points - CP Foods UK - John Vincent, Bob Miller, Richard Stokes, David Vincent Winner of the longest drive was Grenville Rose, nearest the pin went to Ken Jones and the putting competiton was won by Gordon Reynolds.

Event organiser Graham Robertson said: "It was a very successful and most enjoyable day with a record number of entries this year.

"We have teams coming back year after year and I'm delighted with all the support which makes the event a must in the calendar of Worcestershire golfers and a regular fundraiser for St Richard's.

"Droitwich Golf and Country Club were excellent hosts in every respect. The course was in excellent condition and the catering was superb."

St Richard's moved into its new £5.25m hospice at Wildwood Drive, Worcester at the end of last year.

All the services are free and each year St Richard's cares for in the region of 1,700 patients and families. The hospice needs to raise £3.2m this year to provide the ongoing specialist care and support for patients and families.

Next year's event will take place on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 again at Droitwich Golf and Country Club.
