A ROAD has been blocked for two months by sand after part of an embankment was swept onto it by flood water.

The road in the village of Clifton, off the A38 south of Kempsey, is one of the main thoroughfares through the village.

Hugh Hanmer, chairman of Severn Stoke and Croome d'Abitot Parish Council, says the sand has been blocking the southern part of the main road through the village since the floods reached their height at the end of July.

Around 5ft of water swept through the village when the Severn broke its banks, leaving about 1ft of sand on the road once the water had subsided.

Mr Hanmer said the issue came up at the last parish council meeting on Thursday.

He said: "The parish is still suffering misery from the floods. The river overtopped the flood embankment and there's huge amounts of sand in one of the roads in Clifton. It's till impassable. There's no way you're going to get through with a car. The residents are disappointed it has not been cleared up."

A spokesman for Worcestershire County Council said: "We are aware of the situation and would like to assure residents that the road will be cleaned up as soon as possible. The recent flooding had a major impact on many roads throughout the county and we are working as quickly as we can to put them right."
