A FIRE at a Herefordshire factory has been described as the biggest one to hit the north of the county for years.

Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Alec Mackie said around 75 firefighters were sent to the severe blaze which has since been described as "suspicious."

Fire investigators could find no reason why the factory - which was used for storing marquees - had caught alight.

The fire started at around 9.40pm on Friday, September 21 at the unit in Southern Avenue, Leominster, and has gutted the factory completely.

Firefighters also had to fight to protect a neighbouring electricity substation until staff from Central Networks arrived to isolate supplies.

Police will now investigate the cause of the fire.
