A DRUNK woman attacked good Samaritans who stopped to help her after she ran into the road.
Adell Thomas's thanks for the driver's concern was was to rip off the car's windscreen wiper, scratch the car and flee the scene, shouting that he was 'a paedo' before hitting his mother in the face, splitting her lip.
Adell Thomas, previously of Lowesmoor, Worcester, ran out in front of a car in Church Road, Bromsgrove, forcing the driver, who thought she was being chased, to swerve to avoid running her over.
When the driver returned to the scene to enquire after her welfare she attacked the car, pulling off a windscreen wiper and striking the driver's mother at around 1am on April 13 this year.
The 28-year-old admitted common assault, criminal damage and breaching a suspended sentence order for assault occasioning actual bodily harm when she appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Monday.
The suspended sentence was imposed because Thomas, then living at Little Chestnut Street in Worcester, assaulted Kelly Godfrey in her own home on April 15 last year, causing her "nasty injuries".
Amiee Parkes, prosecuting, said: "As he drove up to her she ran up to the car and jumped face first onto the bonnet. She was screaming, shouting and swearing."
The windscreen wiper was ripped off, costing £40 to replace. Thomas has nine previous convictions for 14 offences, including for battery, criminal damage and assault occasioning actual harm, this last offence resulting in five month prison sentence suspended for 12 months
Amanda O'Mara, defending, said her client had been free of crime between 2005 and 2015 when she had been 'a happy mum, looking after three children'.
Miss O'Mara said: "She was subject to domestic violence and started to misuse alcohol again. Things have spiralled and they have continued to spiral."
However, Miss O'Mara said Thomas had tried to reduce her drinking. "She was using bottles of spirits. She is now using lager. She has not used any class A drugs for a considerable period of time" said Miss O'Mara.
Thomas had been upset that day because it was the anniversary of her cousin's death and she had been to the grave said Miss O'Mara.
Judge Nicolas Cartwright said: "They had to swerve to avoid you. They turned around to investigate, out of concern for you. The thanks for that is that you threw yourself onto the bonnet of their car, scratched the car and ripped off the windscreen wiper and ran off."
As they pursued her judge Cartwright said Thomas had tried to 'turn things around' by shouting that the driver of the car was 'a paedo' to try to get people to intervene against him.
The judge said the driver's mother who was slapped had 'done nothing wrong'. The judge said: "You were swinging your arms around in a reckless way. You hit her in the face, cutting her lip."
The judge said this was 'a serious injury in the context of common assault' and told her that her previous convictions for violence were 'highly aggravating'. He also said she had been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The judge jailed her for seven months, activating the suspended sentence in full and adding a two month consecutive sentence for the more recent offences.
