A FAST food restaurant is reviewing its security measures after an employee was attacked and lost a tooth while asking a customer to leave.

McDonald’s has said the safety of its employees and customers is “our absolute priority” following the incident at the Blackpole Road, Worcester, restaurant.

The police released CCTV footage of a man they want to identify and speak with in relation to the attack at around 8pm on Sunday (September 23).

The male suspect was asked to leave the restaurant after spitting on the floor, before striking the manager, police have said.

Staff called the police following the attack, but the suspect fled the scene before officers could arrive at the Blackpole Retail Park restaurant.

An eyewitness said the man was stumbling around and appeared to be drunk.

She said she believes the attack had started after the man accused a staff member of staring at him.

A McDonald’s spokesperson described the behaviour as “unacceptable and extremely disappointing” but said it is not a regular occurrence at the restaurant.

The spokesperson said: “The safety of our employees and customers is our absolute priority, and behaviour of this type from a customer is unacceptable and extremely disappointing to see.

“We have been supporting the employee involved and are reviewing our security measures, however incidences of this type are not a regular occurrence in this restaurant.”

It is unclear how long the attacker had been in the restaurant before the attack or whether he had bought anything.

A spokeswoman for West Mercia Police confirmed on Wednesday that no arrests have been made in relation to the incident.

PC Mark Slade, of West Mercia Police, said: “This was a serious assault causing an injury to the manager, and we are keen to talk to the man in the CCTV as soon as possible.”
