A company has sent the ‘first’ traffic cone into space.
The bizarre stunt by the Droitwich firm, was part of international scavenger hunt, The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen (GISH).
Staff at the traffic management supplier Start Traffic, based at the Berry Hill Industrial Estate, said they were inspired by billionaire Elon Musk, who recently sent a car to space.
The traffic cone was put into the cosmos through courier ‘Sent Into Space’, using a weather balloon, dispatched from Gloucester last month.
Technical manager James Crame said: “Elon Musk sent a car up to space recently and, frankly, we think that’s a little irresponsible without the proper infrastructure in place.
“We've sent a full-size traffic sign or traffic cone up into space to help Musk’s robot keep to the rules of the highway in the stratosphere.
“We think there is a high likelihood it may have been the first traffic cone in space.”
