I have just been asked to sell a Hillman Imp in my next sale.
Now to many, the Mini with a boot stuck on it is not as desirable as the original little trendsetter designed by Sir Alec Issigonis and driven by such luminaries as Paddy Hopkirk on his legendary Monte Carlo rallies and Twiggy in her short skirt as she cruised up and down Carnaby Street.
I think this car might fetch £2,500-3000. However, its owner spent £20,000 having it restored. Why, you might ask. Well, it was his grandfather's car, and that is one of a valuer's hardest conundrums - sentiment. It's a commodity no one can put a value on.
