When you enter The Barn Owl, off Berkeley Way, Worcester, you are greeted by the bar in front of you and dining areas to your left and right.

There are wooden beams across the ceiling of the dining areas and brick wall columns on the inside of the building, providing a warm, cosy feeling.

The weather was boiling hot when I visited and the garden area was flooded with people, sat in the sheltered booths and lounging in the sun.

As far as pub gardens go the Barn Owl definitely has one of the best I have seen, with trees, grass and flowers.

I arrived at lunchtime and opted for the pub’s lunch deal, buying breaded scampi with chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce at the bar for a total of £5.50.

I also saw that Pub Spy’s favourite continental beverage, Peroni, was on offer and purchased a pint for £4.50.

The bar was clearly well run, with gleaming surfaces and a wide range of drinks available.

After a 20-minute wait the food arrived at my table.

It was slightly less than I wanted but the quality exceeded my expectations.

The breaded scampi was crisp on the outside and had soft, flavoursome fish inside.

It was perfectly complemented by the tangy tartare sauce and delicious chips.

The mushy peas were nothing to write home about as they had stuck together in one large solid lump, but they still tasted good when mixed with the rest of the meal.

However, the smallish serving meant I still had room for a little more and decided to buy some dessert.

I missed a trick by not ordering the main and pudding together as I could have paid just £2.50.

Instead, I had to fork out £3.75 for my chocolate orange bread and butter pudding.

It had an almost rubbery texture but it was a tasty treat and went down well with a bit of cream.

They have some great offers on at the pub, including any pizza for £5 on Wednesdays and a variety of lunch options for £5 on Mondays.

The pub is also family friendly as it boasts a play area and a children’s menu.

The actual pub building has an interesting history as a former barn.

Marston’s refurbished the site last year, which reportedly brought a further 12 jobs to the area, joining the already 30-strong team at the pub.

Overall I would highly recommend The Barn Owl, it is one of the cosier pubs in Worcester and serves up some great food. The bar is professionally run and the staff are prompt and courteous.

Its roomy interior is also a draw, as is its fantastic garden.

Situated next to Warndon Villages it is a bit too far out from the city centre for those looking to make a night of it but if you are seeking some good grub and an enjoyable environment you can’t go wrong with this one.
