After telling everyone about my diagnosis I was shattered, but previously agreed plans meant that Tim was going to see Star Wars: Rogue Nation at the cinema with the boys and I was going out for dinner with the girls.
We decided to keep to the same plan as we both needed some light relief, but the girls and I decided to stay in instead.
There were lots of hugs and some tears. I did a diagnosis question and answer session with them as they naturally had lots of questions which helped to explain what was going on and then we ate fish and chips in our comfies and drank Prosecco, #standard.
In fact, that was one of the reasons I decided to write a blog, as it’s a way of conveying all the information without having to be asked the same questions over and over again.
Tim had said he didn't want to leave me and wanted to keep me in his sights but he could see that I was genuinely doing OK and I said he should go for his burger and cinema night with the Worcester crew. Goodness knows, he needed it.
Both Tim and I were so tired by the time we went to bed, but comforted by our friends and humbled by the lovely messages of support we had received throughout the day.
We can’t believe it has only been two days since we received the news, it feels like a lifetime already.
One thing we never want is sympathy... We've both said we know there are going to be some tough times ahead and that there will be pain and tears along the way, and even though I hadn’t started treatment, we agreed to continue as normally as possible, which means laughing with each other and preparing for our 80s New Year's Eve party...
