A BUSY city street affected by roadworks over the last few months has finally reopened.
The county council has completed raising a 200-metre stretch of New Road, Worcester, in an effort to prevent flooding.
The £1.2million project started on January 8 and was due to finish on May 7, although work actually ended last night (May 16).
Commuters faced long delays in the city yesterday morning when two of the street's lanes were closed.
However all three lanes have now been reopened.
A Worcestershire County Council spokesman previously said: “The completion date for the road works will be less than a week later than planned, due to poor weather conditions over the last four months and other unforeseen issues. These issues were only uncovered once excavation had begun.”
In 2007 and 2014 the road was closed for four and eight days respectively because of flooding.
The project was supposed to raise the road and the footpaths outside Worcestershire County Cricket Club by nearly 400mm.
