SCHOOL pupils have climbed one of Worcestershire’s most prominent landmarks recently to enjoy a view over seven counties.
The children from Astley CE Primary School, spent the day exploring at nearby Abberley Hall School, which features the161ft clock tower in part of its 90-acre site in Great Witley.
Staff welcomed the six and seven year olds and were pleased to show them around the grounds.
Judith Brocklehurst, of the Abberley Hall Foundation,, said: “They were able to climb up the Victorian clock tower, which sits on a 700ft hill and enjoys amazing views of the surrounding region.
“It was built in 1883 and was used as an observation post in the Second World War so the pupils learned about its history.
“We are also lucky enough to have the remains of a Victorian ice house here so they enjoyed looking at that, drawing pictures and finding out about its original use.
“The visit was rounded off with a trip to our new tree house which sleeps up to 25 and has been constructed 30ft above ground in a mature ash tree within the woods here and has wildlife viewing platforms.
“It was a pleasure to host the Astley pupils as they were so fascinated by everything they saw and we would welcome them back at any time.”
She added that all local primary school pupils in the area were invited to take part in the Abberley Hall charity Race for Life fun run on May 13.
