AN auction house is opening in Worcester this weekend - which is the first one the owner believes is based in the city in decades.
Owner Roger Yeomans has taken on a former car showroom, at Unit 3, Sheriff Street, to open The Auction House.
The Auction House shop is opening to the public tomorrow, with owner Roger Yeomans planning to hold a weekly auction at the premises on Wednesday evenings, from 6.30pm, starting from May 9.
Mr Yeomans said it was an exciting prospect to bring back weekly auctions to the city, which he believes have not taken place since the 1990s.
Worcester Car Auctions, which was once based at Diglis Dock Road, is what Mr Yeomans believes is the last auction house based in the city.
The new shop is open to the public daily, from noon to 5pm, and features various items including furniture, collectables, porcelain, toys and games from Mr Yeoman's collection.
Mr Yeomans said: "I am a bit of a hoarder, so these are items I picked up and stored away, and are in good condition.
"People can bring items to sell. Viewings of items on auction days takes place from 10am. There will be 300 lots.
"Ten per cent of all sales is going to help fund the revival of Worcester Youth and Marching Band's Marching Band - which I'm helping to revive, with the help of Lisa Craven from Worcester Community Trust.
"Items will also be sold where 100 per cent goes to this cause - I want to give back to the community."
Mr Yeomans said auctions had become popular in recent years thanks to the popularity of auction television shows.
"People love going round auctions, we have something for everyone," he added.
