UPDATE: Water has been restored in Upton to hundreds of homes and businesses.

Things should be back to normal within the next couple of hours.

The issue was down to a frozen piece of equipment.

HUNDREDS of homes and businesses in Upton are without water this morning.

The water supply went off for hundreds of residents at around 7am this morning.

A Severn Trent spokesman said: We've got teams on the ground in the WR8 area searching for the cause of a problem affecting hundreds of customers in and around Upton-upon-Severn.

We started to get reports of problems at around 7am today and have been searching hard for the issue since.

"There are, as yet, no obvious leaks on the network so we're also checking equipment we have in the area to make sure it's all working perfectly.

"The number of calls coming into our contact centres as a result of both this and due to customers concerned about frozen pipes means that it's taking us longer than normal to get all of them answered but, if people stay on the line, we will get them all answered.

"We'd like to apologise to everyone who's been affected this morning and also to everyone who's having to wait a little longer than usual to get through to our teams, but we're doing everything we can to both get to the cause of the problem and also to get all of the calls answered."

A tweet by Severn Trent said: "Apologies to customers in the WR8 area who are experiencing a loss of water supply at the moment. We have teams on the ground working to find out what the problem is. We'll update everyone as soon as we know more."

St Gabriel's with St Mary's CE Primary in Hanley Swan has been forced to close due to the problems.
