THE source of a foul smell which has plagued a city supermarket has been revealed.
Shoppers at Tesco in Warndon have complained the smell was so disgusting they were walking straight back out.
One disgusted shopper said: “If that was a high street butcher and a smell like that was coming from the shop, they would be closed down straight away.
“The smell was so disgusting it was making me feel ill.
“I walked through the entrance and it hit me straight away.
“I walked straight back out and I won’t be returning.
The supermarket has reassured customers that the smell was not caused by a sewage pipe.
A spokesman for Tesco said: "We’re pleased to confirm that an issue with underfloor piping at our Worcester Warndon Superstore has been fixed.
"We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused to our customers while we completed this work and look forward to welcoming them back to store."
Tesco also confirmed that, despite the foul smell, the supermarket had no hygiene concerns around food or customer health.
