A SECOND Kentucky Fried Chicken has officially opened its doors in the city.
The fast food restaurant brings 50 new jobs onto the Nunnery Park development with the famous chain the first to open its doors on the site off Nunnery Way.
Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Steve Mackay - who cut the ribbon at the fried chicken restaurant - said he was pleased to see another famous company investing in the city.
“It’s great to have another KFC in Worcester and it’s another business employing more and more people,” he said.
“It’s yet another company showing confidence in the area.
“The average age of the staff here is around 19 which means it is also great for youth employment.”
Restaurant manager David Allsop said: “Obviously I’m very excited to see the store finally open.”
“A lot of the staff have been training hard for eight weeks and they are just as excited as I am.
“We were all cramped into the other Worcester KFC so it’s good that we’ve finally got our own store and we can get started.
The restaurant has a new design which makes use of an open-planned kitchen and modern furnishings, something that Mr Allsop hopes will give customers a better experience.
“I think this is the second KFC to be designed in this way,” he added.
“Before the kitchen used to be closed but now we’ve made it more open so customers can see in.”
Hannah and Paul Neil from Weston Subedge in Gloucestershire were the first through the doors and ordered mini chicken fillets and fries.
Mr Allsop hopes the new restaurant can lay to rest a number of misconceptions about the fried chicken giant.
“A lot of people don’t know that we bread all the chicken ourselves and it doesn’t just come frozen,” he said.
“The first store had a lot of bad press, especially with the littering and the gulls, and we want to change that around.”
The opening of Worcester’s second fried chicken restaurant was a subdued affair compared to the opening of its first when hour-long queues and swarming gulls welcomed the fast food giant in Blackpole.
KFC will open from 10.30am until 11pm every day.
Bluebell Farm – the other development on Nunnery Park – is set to open next Monday (November 20).
The pub – which will be run by family pub operator Greene King as part of its Farmhouse Inns chain – will offer pub favourites and a carvery.
