AN anonymous four figure donation has been made to a city art competition being run by Worcester solicitors firm Harrison Clark Rickerbys.
More than 70 schools, colleges, art clubs and care homes have been invited to join individual artists in the city-wide art competition, called Worcester is My Passion, which is being run by Harrison Clark Rickerby’s Worcester office.
The contest, which has prizes for charity, aims to encourage artists to express their love for the city in art form.
It focuses on buildings, landscapes, people and events in Worcester as the inspiration for artists and winners will received £250 for the charity of their choice.
A generous donor has now offered £1,000 to support the competition which will be used partly to support another charity prize for entrants outside the existing categories who make an outstanding contribution to the contest.
It will also help to ensure that artists’ work is shown to its best advantage with the right framing or installation.
Although the contest is focused on large pieces of work, smaller pieces can be submitted and will be scaled up if they win.
The contest is being run by the firm in memory of former senior partner Sam Driver White, a supporter of the arts in the county.
Their work will be displayed at the Guildhall and then hung in the legal firm’s meeting rooms.
Kitty Cazes, who runs a children’s ceramics course for children at Worcester Arts Workshop, said: “The children have been doing ceramics for about a year now and we are working on plaques which come together around the theme of swans and the river. They have had some fantastic ideas and have been working hard.”
The children’s work will be judged alongside paintings, photos and multi-media works, all inspired by the city.
The competition runs until October 27 at 5pm and entries should be delivered to the firm’s offices at 5 Deansway.
Harrison Clark Rickerbys has 450 staff and partners based at offices in the Thames Valley, Cheltenham, the Wye Valley, Hereford, Worcester, and Birmingham, who provide a complete spectrum of legal services to both business and private clients, regionally and nationwide.
