A PROLIFIC burglar has been jailed for a series of offences across the Battenhall and St Peter's areas of Worcester.
Nathan Smith, aged 29, of Bath Road, Worcester was arrested by police after he was sighted in the Tolladine area of the city on Sunday.
Officers from two Safer Neighbourhood Teams, Battenhall and Nunnery, and Gorse Hill and Rainbow Hill, together collated evidence for a further 15 offences.
Police described Smith as an 'opportunist thief' who would steal unattended bicycles or parcels that were left on doorsteps by delivery drivers.
The Crown Prosecution Service said Smith was jailed for 52 weeks after pleading guilty to thefts, burglary, handling stolen goods and vehicle interference, at Worcester Magistrates' Court on Monday.
PC Louise Steele of the Battenhall and Nunnery SNT said in a statement to the St Peter's Worcester Facebook group: "After working 15 hours preparing the investigation for court the following day, we are pleased to announce that the offender pleaded guilty to numerous offences in court.
"This may be extended as there are still offences that are currently being investigated by the police against this person."
She added: "We would like to remind the public to be vigilant and not to leave items out on display, or doors to garages and vehicles unlocked, especially as the nights are now drawing in.
"We would like to thank the members of the public who called in to report the suspicious behaviour and assisted us in our investigation.
"If you do see anything suspicious in your area please dial 101 and report the matter to the police. "Alternatively, if you want to give information but don't want to give your name, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, or use their anonymous online form at crimestoppers.org.uk."
In February, the Worcester News reported on a spate of break-ins in the Battenhall and Nunnery areas, including a burglary where a large amount of jewellery was stolen.
