A 27-YEAR-OLD bit a man's thumb during a fight in Worcester city centre.

Robbie Wells, of Poplar Avenue, Brickfields, went to buy a packet of cigarettes during a night out and got into a row with two men in Angel Street.

At Worcester Magistrates Court on Monday, Adrian Jones, prosecuting, said Wells punched and kicked one of the men.

He said Wells told the police that when he was walking past the two men he felt something fly through the air past his ear.

"He became involved in an altercation with the other male, but doesn't recall biting the man's hand," Mr Jones said.

"He recalled trying to walk away on a number of occasions but being followed by the men."

Mr Jones said Wells was injured during the fight, which happened on Friday, January 26, and claimed his actions had been in self-defence. He pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour, was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £60 court costs Barry Newton, mitigating, said: "Mr Wells was walking the other way when abuse was directed at him and something was thrown at him. At that point, Mr Wells was confronted by someone who he feared was "high as a kite".

"Mr Wells accepted he did have the opportunity to go.

"Things were shouted at him and he regrettably returned."

Mr Newton told the court that Wells received a number of blows and was grabbed around the neck.
