A MAN was seriously assaulted last week in Worcester city centre in a suspected knife attack following an argument.

Police are now appealing for information on the assault, which happened on Saturday June 30 shortly after 3pm in Sansome Walk.

The two men were seen arguing at various locations in the city, starting close to The Cross by RSVP.

Shortly afterwards the victim was walking in Foregate Street when he bumped into the man again and the argument continued.

The attacker followed the victim down Pierpoint Street and into Sansome Walk, when the man was attacked in the face by what is thought to be a knife.

The attacker fled towards Northfield Street, leaving the victim bleeding badly and in need of hospital treatment.

The attacker is described as 5ft 10, of athletic build, in his mid 20s, with short brown hair and an Australian accent.

The victim was wearing a pink shirt and dark, formal trousers. He is white, 5ft10ins tall, in his mid-40s, of medium-to-stocky build with short, brown hair.

A police spokeswoman said: "This was a serious assault that left a man with substantial injuries to his face.

"We would urge anyone who saw the two men at any point - or who witnessed the attack take place - to please get in touch as soon as possible."
