LAST weekend's Concert for Diana once again proved how rock music can help a good cause.

Whether it's Live Aid or Tsunami Relief, featuring Elton John or Pharrell Williams, charity gigs never fail to raise vast sums.

Here in Worcestershire, three well-known bands are preparing to play together - free of charge - in aid of the Thom Donaldson Appeal.

Zebedy Rays, And What Will Be Left Of Them and The Afterview may not know Thom, the 21-year-old from Colwall, near Malvern, who was left paralysed from the neck down after an accident last summer, very well but they are aware of the difference their music will make.

Pete Adams, singer from AWWBLOT, said: "We don't really do many charity gigs.

"I guess we decided to do this because of Thom. He's a local guy, he's around our age and what happened to him could have happened to anyone.

"We're all really keen to make this gig a success in order to raise as much as possible for him."

The gig has been organised by Mark Powell, a former employee of Malvern's Morgan Motor Company, where Thom is an apprentice, and father of Josh, the drummer with Zebedy Rays.

"A lot of the charity events that have been held are geared towards people of my age," he said.

"People in their 40s and 50s. They were great but I thought it would be good to do something for people Thom's age. Something Thom and his friends could come to and really enjoy."

The gig is being held at the CSSC Club, Spring Lane, Malvern, on Friday, July 13.

It starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced £5, can be bought in advance from Mr Powell on 07971663752 and on the door. lauren murray
