MUSIC lovers are being urged to put the miserable weather behind them and enjoy an outdoor extravaganza.

Summer Symphony, in aid of the Prince's Trust, takes place at the West Midland Safari Park this Saturday.

The organisers were a little worried all the recent wet weather would put people off, but with no rain being forecast are confident the night will be a huge success.

The English Symphony Orchestra will perform music from the Proms as well as popular classics such as the Lone Ranger, Monty Python, the Hovis advert, Looney Tunes and The Simpsons.

Gates open at 6.10pm ready for a 7.40pm start and the audience is invited to bring along picnics to enjoy.

"Everyone's spirits are low as a result of the awful weather," said Viv Hudson, area board member of the Prince's Trust and managing director of sponsors hotelshop.

"So what better way to lift the mood than with upbeat music in a stunning setting."

Leading the ESO will be Classical Brit award winner Dr Vernon Handley, and the orchestra will be supported by Tom Jones impersonator Tony Scarth. The evening will end with a firework display.

Proceeds from the show will help the Prince's Trust support young people in Worcestershire. The charity, which recently celebrated its 30th birthday, helps 14 to 30-year-olds who have struggled at school, been in care, got in trouble with the law or are long-term unemployed. In Worcestershire alone, the trust helps 10 young people a week get a better start in life.
