A DEFIANT town centre manager has vowed to create a vibrant calendar of outdoor festivals for Droitwich - despite recent events being scuppered by bad weather.

Most recently, a water festival organised in the town by the Droitwich Canals Trust for Sunday, July 1, had to be cancelled after severe weather warnings were issued for the weekend.

But it is not the first event to be at the mercy of the British weather after two previous festivals, this time organised by Droitwich's area partnership manager Joe Ling, were hit by poor weather.

According to Mr Ling, although the events went ahead as planned, the Sports 4 All day at King George's Playing Fields on Wednesday, May 28, was very cold while persistent rain meant the St Richard's Day festival on Sunday, May 13, was a washout.

Despite the problems with his events and those organised by other people, Mr Ling has said he will battle on in his bid to breathe life into the town.

He said: "We are completely undaunted. Many big events have started off low key and done well.

"The reason Evesham and Pershore are seen as so vibrant is because they have a calendar of quality events all year round.

"Droitwich deserves that as well, it's got a lot of potential.

"We want to bring life and vibrancy back to the centre of the town. We want to make people proud and interested in the town where they live and events can attract investment. That's why we are doing it."

Mr Ling added that a party in the park, organised by the Rotary Clubs of Droitwich Spa, was the next event planned for the town on Sunday, July 15, and he was also planning Droitwich's second Salt Day on Saturday, September 15.
