A CYCLING group for women is the latest organisation to be nominated for one of our education awards.
Women on Wheels was put forward for the Worcester News Worcestershire Education Awards, in the Fit for Life category.
The award is designed to celebrate educational groups who have an outstanding commitment to encouraging people to be active on a regular basis.
The award is not restricted to schools but may be dedicated to youth clubs, sports and fitness clubs.
Women on Wheels was set up by Rachel Vann and Amy Taylor in October 2012.
They wanted to offer a friendly, supportive and nurturing environment to help people get on a bike whatever their reasons were for wanting to cycle.
Since then, Women on Wheels has seen nearly 600 riders join its rides and has helped women to grow in confidence.
Nominating them, Isabelle Michel said: “They are teaching women of all ages how to cycle safely and bike maintenance.”
Peter John, Worcester News editor, said: “Women on Wheels is just one of dozens of sports and fitness clubs we know are out there helping keep people fit and active.
“There is still a few days left before nominations close on Friday so there’s still time to let us know about your favourite PE teachers, sports coaches, fitness clubs and youth team volunteers.”
We have already received hundreds of nominations for our education awards which we are hosting with our partner, the University of Worcester.
The awards celebrate the talent, passion and dedication we know exists among childminders, teachers, support staff, training providers and volunteers in education.
They cover all those who have an impact in education including early years, schools, colleges or post-18 education and training providers, as well as sports teams, youth clubs and volunteers at community projects.
Nominations, which close on Friday, April 7, can be made by visiting worcesternews.co.uk/educationawards/nominate
