PEPPA and George Pig were the guests of honour at an official opening of a new children’s playground.

The popular children’s TV duo cut a ribbon to open the revamped playground which includes new play equipment, a story train and a fun train for role play.

The playground, at Shrawley village hall, near Worcester, was given the boost after the hall’s committee secured a lottery grant for nearly £10,000.

The playground will now be used by children at Little Squirrels nursery, which is based at the parish hall, as well as by those in the wider village community.

John Hall, chairman of the hall’s trustees and management committee, said: “It is going down a treat.

“It is being used every day by the nursery and others in the village.

“Anyone can use it. All we ask is they check with Jo from the nursery first.”

“This was the official opening of it and George and Peppa Pig were here which the children liked.

“It wasn’t the nicest of days but we all had photos taken with them.”

The event was combined with the Spring fair and farmers market, which was held at the village hall.

Stallholders meet every three months for a the markets which showcase local produce, cakes and crafts.

For this one, there were cakes on display as well as knitted toys, greeting cards and Easter gifts. Some of the gifts were produced to raise money for Headway, a charity that helps those with brain injuries.

Mr Lee said: “It was reasonably busy.

“There was a cake stand and some knitted crafts.

“I think the organisers were pleased with the way it had gone.”

The event ran from 10.30am to 2pm on Saturday, April 1.

Some of the money raised at the event will be used to further improve facilities at the nursery.
