AN Olympic rower will open a new national supermarket in the city.
Aldi is set to open in Worcester next Thursday, with Team GB gold medallist Matthew Langridge on-hand to cut the ribbon at 8am.
Mr Langridge, who won gold in the Men’s Eight Rowing at the 2016 Rio Olympics, said: "As an athlete, I appreciate how important it is to eat fresh, high quality and healthy produce.
"The range on offer at Aldi, allows customers to benefit from excellent quality at reasonable prices."
The Bath Road store will also welcome representatives from Acorns Children’s Hospice to receive food donations, supporting the charity's care for children and their families in Worcester.
The new shop has created 32 new jobs with a store apprentice vacancy still available.
Aldi store manager, Alan Ridley said: "The new Worcester store will improve the shopping experience for customers in the city, meaning more households will benefit from Aldi’s affordable prices, without compromising on quality.
"The team and I are really looking forward to welcoming customers and it will be great to have an Olympic hero to help us celebrate."
In the coming weeks, Mr Ridley will visit the 1st Worcester Scout Group to present a product donation of food goods to aid the group’s weekly crafting activities.
The new Aldi shop is the third to open in the city, following stores in Pheasant Street and Tybridge Street.
Customers will benefit from 96 car parking spaces and 1,341sqm of retail space.
The German supermarket has around 1,500 product lines available in-store.
The shop will be open from 8am until 10pm on Monday to Saturday and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday.
