A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing a woman and her teenage son to death – and seriously injuring her husband – during a knife attack at their home near Stourbridge.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Greyhound Lane, Norton, just after 8am where a man, woman and a boy were found with serious stab wounds.

There was nothing that could be done to save the woman, understood to be in her 50s and named locally as Tracey Wilkinson, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman’s 13-year-old son suffered critical stab injuries and was later pronounced dead in hospital; her husband, named locally as Peter Wilkinson, remains in hospital with stab wounds to his chest and back.

The son is thought to be named Pierce and was a pupil at Redhill School in the town; this afternoon the school released the following statement.

"You may be aware that there was a serious incident in the Stourbridge area this morning which has affected our school community.

" Tragically one of our year 8 pupils and his mother have died and his father is in hospital following an attack in the family home.

"We have no further details from the police at this time and clearly their investigation is at a very early stage. We will keep people updated as we receive further information.

"Pupils and staff who need support will have access to psychological first aid provided by Dudley Educational psychology service. We will also be providing parents with guidance on how to support their children.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this."

A Land Rover stolen from outside the home was intercepted by police at around 8.30am in Norton Road and a man in his 20s arrested.

He is currently in police custody and will later be questioned on suspicion of murder and wounding.

Dudley Police Superintendent Lee Kendrick, said: “What has unfolded here this morning is horrific and heart-breaking. Police and ambulance were confronted with an awful scene: a man, woman and boy, all with very serious stab injuries “The woman and boy were found in the house and the man in the garden.

“Tragically there was nothing that could be done to save the woman – and her son later died in hospital from his injuries. Our hearts go out to the victims’ family and friends at this devastating news.

“Clearly our investigation is at a very early stage but we understand the suspect was known to the family and may have been living at the address – although he is not a family relative. We don’t think this was a burglary or a robbery.

“Our investigation is progressing at pace and we are working to understand exactly what the relationship was between the man and the family. At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”

A resident of Greyhound Lane, who did not wish to be named, told of her shock at the tragedy and said: "They were just normal people who got on with stuff, walking the dog and going to the pub.

"This is just an awful thing to happen."

Another, who witnessed the emergency services flood the scene, added: "I’m shocked. It’s a quiet residential area; it’s not something that you’d expect.”

The Midlands Air Ambulances from Cosford and Staffordshire were sent to the scene along with two land ambulances, two trauma doctors, two senior paramedic officers, a paramedic area support officer and a community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Ambulance staff arrived on scene to find three seriously injured patients; a woman, a man and a boy.

“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance staff it became apparent at the scene that nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed deceased.

“The teenage boy was found to be in cardiac arrest and received specialist trauma care and advanced life support from our staff. He was taken on blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with treatment continuing en-route.

“Sadly, shortly after arrival in A and E and despite the best efforts of ambulance staff and hospital medics, nothing could not be saved and he was also confirmed dead.

“The man, who was conscious, was also in a serious condition as a result of his stab wounds and was alerted in to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham by land ambulance.”

Anyone with information is urged to call West Midlands Police on 101.
