THE summer isn't going to be the complete washout that May and June have been, according to Worcestershire weatherman Paul Damari.

Although early predictions stated it was going to be one of the hottest summers on record and a scorching April seemed to show us a sign of months to come, Mr Damari has said their long-term forecast was wrong.

"It was going to be a lovely summer but it has all gone haywire now," he said.

"It looks like it is going to be a very stop-and-go summer across most of the British Isles.

"But the whole of it isn't going to be a washout.

"There will be some heavy storms and rain but I'm not ruling out some nice days altogether. I'm still optimistic myself.

"I still think there will be some finer weather on its way as there is still a long way to go before the end of summer. However, it does look like there's going to be some more rain and storms but also one or two fine, nice days coming along."

Mr Damari admitted that early predictions from the Met Office and himself that it would be a sizzling summer were wrong.

He said: "Sometimes we are lucky and get it right, but very often we get it wrong. You can't really rely on long-term forecasts and they have to change all the time."

The rainfall for June at his Barbourne weather station was 150.2mm of rain, with the normal average being 57.7mm.
