A MAN gave his, or someone else's name, to the girlfriend of a man he assaulted after threatening to damage the couples camper van.

Evesham Police are trying to trace the man who first banged on the door of their van, then tried the door-handle before shouting he would damage the vehicle if the occupants did not come out.

When the owner did emerge, the man hit him around the head and continued to assault and abuse him for some 20 minutes as the victim fixed two bicycles to the vehicle prior to driving off.

After the incident - at Honeybourne on Saturday, May 19 between 1.30am and 1.50am. The victim complained of a stiff jaw and a headache.

A police spokesman said: ""During the incident, however, the assailant - rather strangely - told the victim's girl-friend that his name was 'Brian Osbourne'.

"This was either not a very sensible thing to do or he was lying. We are still trying to find out which and are seeking the public's help in doing so.

"It may be too much to ask for the assailant to come forward himself, but if anyone has any information that might lead to his apprehension - such as someone with a grudge against a 'Brian Osbourne' - we would like to hear from them."

The man is described as white, in his 40s, 5ft 8ins tall and of stocky build, with short, thick light or grey hair. He wore a pale jumper with the figure 75 in large letters on the front.
