ON Friday, July 6, at Kidderminster Library, popular Kidderminster artistes Russell Painter (tenor) and David Morgan (piano) will present an evening of midsummer melodies.

The programme, which starts at 7.30pm, will include English songs, items by Flanders and Swann, items from operettas, and songs from the musicals, plus the first public performance of a song David wrote for Russell to sing in his finals at the Guildhall, London, where he gained a MMus degree. Tickets are available from Kidderminster Library, from vice-chairman Von Stewart on 01562 755990 At a recent meeting, Dr Donald Hunt OBE gave a talk, illustrated by music on Worcestershire's famous composer, Sir Edward Elgar. He told how Elgar gained his interest in music through listening to the church and cathedral organs, and said he was going to be a composer when aged just seven.

Dr Hunt talked about various compositions while also giving his audience an insight into Elgar's personality. The composer was most often inspired to write music by the Worcestershire countryside.

The society will present a very different kind of programme on Friday, July 13 when Ying Chang will inform How To Produce And Market A Compact Disc.

A freelance writer, music critic and pianist, Ying Chang will illustrate the various stages involved in the process of making a CD, from choosing the venue to selling the finished product, via patching and editing.
