A father whose son is trapped in Dubai has set the date for a big cycle ride to London to raise awareness of his case.

Roy Glass, of Rainbow Hill, Worcester, will make the 100-mile trip to the capital on Monday to meet Worcester MP Mike Foster.

As we reported last month, his son Mark is trapped in the Gulf state after his passport was confiscated when his hire car was crashed by a work colleague.

Although Mark has not been charged with any offence, he is unable to return to his wife and two children in Foregate Street, Worcester.

Roy Glass will take a letter to Mr Foster from the family explaining their situation and asking for the Labour MP's help.

He said: "I'm going ahead with this ride, especially since hearing that the court has again adjourned his case until the end of July. But I'm going to show the letter to everyone I can. I want them all talking."

The family is hoping to raise about 5,000 in sponsorship for Mr Glass' one-day journey to help secure his son's release.

Mark's mother Hilary Atherage has already raised some money through her craft group and has set up an account for donations.

She said: "I dream that one day this nightmare will be over and there will be a morning I wake up and know Mark is home, safe and sound, and I don't have to worry anymore."

It is hoped that once the crashed car is paid for, he can return home.

Mr Glass will leave in the early hours of the morning from his Worcester home and travel via Pershore, Evesham and Oxford before eventually arriving at the House of Commons.
