MORE than 200 people enjoyed an open-air community fun day in Worcester despite the persistent showers.

Sunshine Radio, face-painting and a giant Connect 4 game were among the many attractions on the car park of the Glover's Needle in Windermere Drive, Warndon, yesterday.

The festival of fun was held to raise funds for the County Air Ambulance and young and old from the community turned out to support the cause. Organisers were hoping to raise between £5,000 and £10,000.

A spokesman said: "It was a really successful day with lots of things going on and the weather wasn't too bad for us. There were a few heavy showers but there were also a lot of very sunny periods, which was great."

The fun day saw a number of stalls on the pub car park, including food and drink, a bingo raffle and a set of stocks.

Organisers are now turning their attentions to the Tour De Warndon bike ride in August which will include a beach party and a portable swimming pool. This event will run between noon and 6pm.
