A WOMAN was sexually assaulted as she shopped in the High Street in Evesham, police said today.
The woman was first approached by a man - who she knows - outside Barclays Bank between 4.10pm and 4.15pm on Wednesday where he tried hold her hand. He then followed her into the Card Shop and stood behind her.
As she left the shop, the man, who is believed to have been drinking, sexually assaulted her before attempting to pull her into Avon Street where she managed to run off across the road.
"This was a serious sexual assault and extremely distressing for the unsuspecting victim," said a police spokesman.
"The perpetrator is known to the woman and we hope to make an early arrest. We do, however, want to hear from anyone who saw some - or all - of this incident. There were a considerable number of people around at the time and we hope those who can help will quickly come forward."
Police can be contacted on 08457 444 888, quoting 617S/270607. Information can also be given - anonymously - to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
