A DANCE teacher is hoping her already talented pupils pick up further skills when they take part in a major dance festival.

Rachael Alexander has choreographed the piece which the Worcestershire Youth Dance Company will perform at the National Youth Dance Festival in a fortnight.

The company, representing the entire West Midlands, will also take part in a number of workshops - something Alexander hopes will make a big impression.

"Culturally, ethnically, the festival is truly diverse," she said.

"There will be workshops in Bollywood, Indian and African dancing.

"And there will be boys and girls taking part. Unsuprisingly, there are fewer male dancers out there - but 25 per cent of the youngsters taking part in the festival are boys, which is a massive representative."

The National Youth Dance Festival is a platform for the best dancers and dance companies in the country.

The Worcestershire Youth Dance Company will perform at the Lowry Theatre in Salford, Manchester, on Wednesday, July 11.
