AMBULANCE crews in Worc-ester played host to a delegation of visitors from China.

The nine-man team from Hong Kong included doctors, consultants and managers with varying interests in ambulances and rapid res-ponse vehicles, specialised rescue equipment, paramedic training modules, and the operation of pre-hospital emergency services.

Dr Luk Wai-hung, who works with the auxiliary medical service, a government department that provides extra res-ources to bolster the existing medical and health services, said there was an emphasis on maintaining health care and the well-being of the former British territory, especially in times of emergency. Hong Kong was returned to China in July, 1997. "It has been very helpful for us to see the most up-to-date emergency equipment in the UK and to have the opportunity to examine at close- hand the excellent medical equipment in use on ambulances in the Hereford and Worcester area," he said.

Nick Harris, divisional manager for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "It was a pleasure to show these visitors how we operate here."
