AN elderly woman who fell down the stairs died from bleeding on the brain, an inquest heard.

Doris Daw, an 85-year-old retired music teacher from Nightingale Drive, Spennells, Kidderminster, was found at the bottom of the stairs by her husband Raymond on Mon-day, June 18.

Worcestershire Coroner's Court in Stourport-on-Severn heard on Tuesday how she was suffering dementia and sometimes got confused about the time of day.

Mr Daw was woken by a very loud noise and went into her room to look for his wife. When she was not there, he went looking and heard her calling from the bottom of the stairs.

County coroner Victor Round said: "He went down and called his daughter, who came straight round. As far as anybody could see, she had hit her head hard as there was a dent in the plaster."

Mrs Daw was taken to hospital where her condition deteriorated and she died on Tuesday, June 19.

Mr Round recorded a verdict of accidental death.
