Boost alternative lawns
1. If you are growing a thyme lawn, choose species such as Thymus serpyllum and T. polytrichus, rather than varieties which are upright in growth and whose stems are more brittle and vulnerable to damage when walked on.2. Don't use weedkiller on chamomile or thyme lawns. Weeds should be pulled out by hand.3. If you don't intend to walk on your alternative lawn you have more choice of plants that naturally form cushions, such as ajuga, armeria, aubrieta, calluna, helianthemum, lithospermum, saxifraga and dianthus.
