CHILDREN in Worcestershire are being encouraged to become involved in a research programme to gauge young people's understanding of finance.

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Natwest are launching the Money for Life Panel to look at youngsters' attitudes to money.

It follows on from the banks' Face2Face With Finance initiative, in which Gorse Hill Community Primary School in Worcester, and Bowbrook House School, Peopleton, took part.

Baroness Denise Kingsmill, chairman of the Face2Face With Finance advisory panel, said: "Latest research reveals that there is a critical need to focus on financial education in schools to ensure that we give the teenagers of today the skills they require to develop as adults who are capable of making sensible, informed money decisions.

"Without research in this area it will be impossible to meet the needs of the next generation and it is of paramount importance that we increase our understanding of the financial challenges they face and address this knowledge gap now."

The banks have launched a study that will both measure and explore the level of understanding and attitudes of secondary school pupils to money management.

The F2F Money for Life Panel will enable NatWest and RBS to explore how young people spend and manage their money.
