WORCESTER News readers have been asked to join the fight to stop the city post office being relocated to WH Smith's High Street shop by signing a city council petition.

Plans are under way to move the Worcester branch to the first floor of WH Smith as part of a nationwide deal to save the Post Office money.

City councillors are refusing to accept the decision and want thousands of you to back its campaign. The petition urges the Post Office to reconsider its decision to move the branch, but also urges it to relocate the new store on the ground floor of the High Street store, if the move goes ahead.

An official six-week public consultation on it has just finished, but the Guildhall wants to hand over a big dossier of signatures to the post office to show it just how the city feels.

The plan has been labelled "totally unacceptable" and is opposed by residents, all political parties in Worcester and city MP Mike Foster.

Councillor Simon Geraghty, leader of the city council, said: "This is totally unacceptable. I would urge the Post Office to reconsider the plans."

The Post Office plans to move 70 branches into WH Smith stores to save £70 million.
