A CHARITY auction held by the father of a well-known Worcestershire golfer has raised more than £12,000.

John Bickerton senior held the event at Worcestershire County Cricket club on Sunday where there was a host of memorabilia from the world of sport, including a Ronaldinho-signed Barcelona shirt, a David Beckham-signed England shirt, Leicester Tigers shirt and bat signed by Worcestershire's record- breaking batsman Graeme Hick. There were about 70 lots up for auction with practically all the memorabilia was sold.

All the money will be given to the fight against motor neurone disease, which claimed the life of Mr Bickerton's wife Mal earlier this year.

Mr Bickerton, who is the father of John Bickerton, one of Britain's top golfers, said: "I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped. This has far surpassed what we hoped for. Infact, it has about doubled what we expected."
