A HOME has been ravaged by flood water for the second time in seven days.

Priors Mill in Astley, near Stourport, hardly had chance to recover from last Tuesday's flash flood, when heavy rain caused more chaos on Sunday.

Water tore through the building after Dick Brook, which the property is built around, again burst its banks.

The couple who live in the historic building are away on holiday. They have been told about the flood damage but are too upset to talk about it.

The owner's brother-in-law, Michael Weaver, aged 49, has been staying there and was woken up by the sound of rushing water on Sunday night.

"It's not as bad as last week but it's still devastating," he said. "At 4.30am it was raining and I could hear the waterfall getting louder. When I got up at about 6.30am, it was just horrendous. Water was gushing in everywhere.

"The silt it has left behind is about 2ft deep and we've got bricks from the bridge up the road floating past.

"The sheer force of the water must have been tremendous."

Mr Weaver is now trying to salvage what is still inside, from antique furniture to irreplaceable personal belongings. "There is only so much you can do," he said.

"We're fortunate that there's been no structural damage."

Mr Weaver is trying to clean up for the owners' return.

Last week, a man had to be rescued by firefighters after he became trapped and surrounded by rising water in the mill's garden. What was described as "a mini tsunami" reached speeds of up to 25mph and claimed the lives of a dog and pet rabbit.
