THE old photograph above shows how Worcester was hit by floods in June 1924. Janet Hill, who provided the pictures, said her father Leonnard Cox helped out during the flooding at Pitchcroft, which at the time was the venue for the Three Counties Show.
"He helped rescue all the animals and horses and took them to Brittania Square and Castle Street to get them out of the water, because it was still rising," said the 72-year-old, of Henwick Park, St John's, Worcester. The heavy rainfall also pushed up water levels at Worcester Bridge, which was just as high in 1924 as it was yesterday.
