A Worcester man trapped in Dubai after a friend crashed his car has had his hopes of returning home been hit with another delay.

Mark Glass appeared in court this morning only for his case to be adjourned until July 30.

Mr Glass, 34, has been trapped in the Arab country for more than a year after court officials took it following a car crash.

Following the latest disappointment his family rounded on the authorities for not doing enough to secure the father of two's return to Worcester.

His mother Hilary Atherage said: "He sent me a text to tell me the news. We are just so devastated. He has been to court time and time again and nothing seems to be happening. The embassy is not doing enough. They just don't seem to care."

Mr Glass, who lives in Foregate Street, has been stranded ever since an Indian acquaintance he knew smashed up his hire car.

Despite Mr Glass not driving the car, he has been held liable as the vehicle was in his name.

Without a passport he cannot work and has had to sleep on a friend's floor.

The family had believed that £5,000, which his mother had given him, had been used to pay the hire car company so that he could get his passport back, but the money has been stolen from the flat where he is staying.

His wife Boryana said: "I feel like no one really cares. I have been onto groups like Liberty and Amnesty International this morning discussing his case. It's very difficult dealing with these Arab countries."

Roy Glass, Mr Glass's father said: "Mark must be tearing his hair out. I don't know what the technicalities are stopping him from getting his pasport back but we are not going to give up."

Worcester MP Mike Foster said he would be writing to foreign office minister Kim Howells about the lack of action.

Mr Foster said: "I will be sending a strongly worded letter as the efforts of the embassy don't seem to be very effective. It's a difficult situation as foreign countries operate different justice systems, but what is going on does seem fairly chaotic."
