FIREFIGHTERS in Worcester raised £1,000 by swapping their hoses for buckets in a charity car wash.

Members of Green Watch were joined by a group of volunteers in helping to raising £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.

A spokesman said: "Our thanks go out to everyone who passed through Worcester Fire Station during the car wash, without which this amazing total would not have been achieved."

Macmillan volunteer car washers Gill Wall, Brendan Wall and Carolyn Brooks, who took part, are also part of a team of nine people taking part in the Macmillan London to Paris cycling challenge from July 8-12.

The team aims to raise £11,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and has already raised more than £5,000. Anyone able to help them can donate using their website www.justgiving.com/gillwall
