RAIN didn't dampen spirits at the Race for Life in Evesham.

Yesterday's Cancer Research UK fund-raiser, which took place at Crown Meadow, saw more than 1,200 women run side by side to help find a cure for cancer.

Natasha Russell, from the charity, said: "It was an absolutely brilliant day. It was raining pretty hard but it didn't dampen any spirits and the atmosphere was great.

"We had the Wyvern FM crew doing the commentary and keeping everyone happy."

Since Race for Life began in 1994, more than 2.7 million women across the UK have taken part, raising more than £140 million to fund the charity's pioneering work to help beat cancer.

Every pound raised in sponsorship goes directly to the scientists, doctors and nurses who work ambitiously to find new treatments.

Last year, Cancer Research UK set two Guinness World Records - the most participants in a multi-location 5km race and the most participants stretching simultaneously. The latter involved 115,000 women at 24 venues across the UK.

The event is famed for its overwhelming sense of pride and sisterhood.
