I suppose that it was inevitable that having planned Shakespeare at the Commandery for well over a year, the weather should intervene big-time to make the fortnight very difficult for us.

One of the wettest Junes on record has made life very uncomfortable on occasions, but the audiences have been absolutely magnificent.

They've got fairly damp a few times, but not as wet as the actors for sure, and the sterling efforts of my fantastic cast and crew have been greatly appreciated by all those who have come.

There are still performances tonight and tomorrow, so come and check it out, rain or shine. I can guarantee you an experience.

Shakespeare is a truly amazing writer. Despite the English being a little archaic, and it being difficult to read on the page sometimes, the words come alive through actors. All the humour, the bawdiness, the deep understanding of human nature and the construction of comical situations, are all still masterfully presented for everyone to see, and totally accessible to the modern audience.

What a man! As almost an afterthought, it was interesting to remember during some of the Commandery performances that the great man was married only about 400 yards away, at Old St Martins.

The marriage certificate will soon be on display in the Cathedral, which I hope will be good for tourism.
