FOUR rugby players will be getting on their bikes when they take part in the world's biggest 24-hour mountain bike festival.
The Worcester Wanderers Colts stars will be peddling around the grounds of Eastnor Castle, near Ledbury, in the Mountain Mayhem race.
The event, which is sponsored by T-Mobile, takes place today and tomorrow and will see more than 450 teams and 2,500 people cycling for charity. Worcester Wanderers Colts members Jon Hines, Jake Abbott, Paul Burton and Ben Barclay will be among those, and will be raising money for Wooden Spoon, which is rugby's own charity for disadvantaged children.
Stuart James, director of rugby for Worcester Wanderers RFC, said: "What a challenge for the boys. If they enjoy it we may introduce it into our pre-season training programme."
They are being sponsored by Tangerinefish Water Systems, a local water company. Peter Hines, from the firm, said: "This is an event that demands the highest standards in teamwork and personal achievement."
In addition, the Wanderers members are providing mountain bikes and kit for the four together with offers of support during the race. Kukri have also agreed to provide cycling shirts.
If you would like to support the boys with donations call Mr Hines on 01886 889191 or e-mail peter@tangerine fish.com.
