A PARALYMPIC swimmer is set to help switch on a town's Christmas lights, filling the streets with a festive, twinkling glow.
Rebecca Redfern, who won silver at the Rio Paralympics, will help Droitwich Mayor Roy Murphy switch on the town's Christmas lights at an event on Saturday, November 26.
The switch-on follows a packed day of festive events, including a Christmas fayre, music from the Salvation Army band between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, fun fair rides, and the popular Santa's grotto in St Richard's House.
Cllr Murphy, accompanied by the young athlete, will flick the switch at 4.30pm outside St Richard's House in Victoria Square.
"It is a very jolly occasion and even in wet weather people enjoy it and we expect a good crowd to turn up," said Cllr Murphy, who attended last year's event as Deputy Mayor.
"Above all, the lights are very dramatic - it is a very colourful occasion. It brings people together, it is an event that people like to celebrate."
Accompanying the switch-on will be performances by Westacre Middle School choir and the Worcestershire Rock Choir between 4pm and 5pm.
Following the main event, dozens of tinsel-bedecked trees will go on show to the public at St Andrew's Church Christmas Tree Festival, in St Andrew's Street.
Visitors to the church will be treated to a free concert by the Droitwich Community Choir between 5.15pm and 6pm.
Alongside all the entertainment, there will be Christmas cards on sale at the Heritage and Tourist Information Centre in St Richard's House between 10am and 4pm.
