THE Malvern Hills could be lit up by prisms to celebrate a landmark year for the Malvern Hills Conservators.

In 2009 the conservators celebrate their 125th anniversary and director Ian Rowat said it was looking to mark the event with something that involved the whole community.

At a recent land management committee meeting, members heard a proposal from Bridget Crump, creative manager with Artpoint, for a series of prisms to reflect the sunshine along the tree-line of the hills.

"Putting them along the tree-line would be relevant so that we could take that as a benchmark for where the trees exist today," said Mr Rowat. "Then in the future, we could repeat the exercise and see whether we have succeeded in retaining the trees at that height."

Artpoint's ideas are so new that the relevant technology is still being patented. It is believed the display would be the first of its kind in the country.

Conservator Sue Adeney said the idea had huge potential for both Malvern and the surrounding area.

"This proposal gives the whole area a fantastic opportunity to do something very, very different," she said.

A decision on the display has been deferred for further consideration. Mr Rowat said he was open to suggestions of ways to celebrate the anniversary year.
