WORCESTERSHIRE MEP Liz Lynne has expressed her outrage at the length of time it has taken for the use of dog and cat fur to be banned in the EU.
Mrs Lynne, who campaigned for a ban for many years, spoke in the debate about the subject at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Monday.
After the vote, which approved the ban, she said: "Many customers simply do not know what they are buying. What is labelled as fake fur has in some cases been cat and dog fur. These products have also turned up in toys, ornaments, homeopathic medicines and, of course, clothing and accessories."
